Listing Guidelines

Clear details, accurate information, and responsible posting help make Hello Passaic useful for everyone.

Last updated: October 18, 2026

These guidelines apply to our five directories: Businesses, Properties & Rentals, Jobs, Events, and Classifieds. They also apply to related photos, descriptions, links, and promotional content.

Please read these guidelines alongside our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

Free corrections. Optional upgrades. You do not need to purchase a paid service to request a factual correction to a basic business listing or claim a business you are authorized to represent. Features and charges for other listing types are described in the applicable submission options.

1. Choose the right directory

Listings should have a genuine connection to Passaic, New Jersey, and appear in the directory that best matches what is being advertised.

  • Businesses: Business profiles for local establishments and providers that genuinely serve Passaic.
  • Properties & Rentals: Eligible apartments, homes, rooms, commercial spaces, and other properties in Passaic.
  • Jobs: Genuine employment opportunities in Passaic or nearby opportunities that clearly state their location and relevance to local applicants. Remote roles must identify any location restrictions.
  • Events: Eligible events and activities taking place in Passaic.
  • Classifieds: Eligible items offered for local sale, including vehicles and parts, in the available categories.

Use the dedicated Jobs, Events, or Properties & Rentals directory for those listings rather than posting them as general classified ads. A business profile and a separate job, event, or item listing may coexist when each serves a distinct purpose.

2. General posting requirements

  • Provide truthful, current information and select relevant categories.
  • Post only what you own or are authorized to advertise.
  • Use a clear title that identifies the business, property, role, event, or item.
  • State the actual location or service area. Do not use an address without authorization.
  • Provide a working contact method or relevant application, registration, or purchase instructions.
  • Disclose important prices, mandatory charges, restrictions, and conditions accurately.
  • Keep listings current and remove or update offers that are no longer available.
  • Do not create duplicates to manipulate visibility or repeatedly repost unchanged content.

Separate locations, properties, job openings, events, or items may have separate listings when each has meaningful, distinct information.

3. Business listings

Use the business’s real public-facing name. Do not add unrelated keywords, promotional claims, phone numbers, or slogans to the name field.

Include the following where applicable:

  • Business name and appropriate category.
  • Actual business address or service area.
  • Business phone number and website, if available.
  • Current opening hours.
  • A useful description of products or services.
  • Relevant photos and an authorized logo.

Service-area businesses must not imply they have a Passaic office or storefront when they do not. If you operate from home, avoid publishing an address you wish to keep private. Use available service-area options or contact us for assistance.

Claims about licensing, insurance, certifications, qualifications, and awards must be accurate and supportable. Publication does not mean Hello Passaic has verified those claims.

4. Properties and rentals

You must own the property or be authorized by the owner to advertise it. Clearly identify whether you are the owner, agent, or manager.

  • Describe the actual property and its location.
  • State whether it is for rent or sale.
  • Provide the current asking price or rent and payment period.
  • Disclose required deposits, mandatory fees, and important conditions.
  • Include accurate bedrooms, bathrooms, amenities, and availability.
  • Use photos of the property being advertised.
  • Provide a working contact method for inquiries.

Clearly identify staged, illustrative, or materially altered images. Do not use another property’s photos or conceal material details that would mislead a prospective tenant or buyer.

Discriminatory housing advertisements, unlawful exclusions, and deceptive eligibility requirements are prohibited. Advertisers must comply with applicable fair housing and nondiscrimination requirements.

Update or remove a listing when the property is rented, sold, withdrawn, or unavailable. Do not publish applicants’ identification documents, financial information, or rental applications.

5. Job listings

Jobs must represent genuine opportunities posted by an employer or an authorized recruiter. Identify the hiring organization and your role accurately. Recruiters must not imply they are the direct employer when they are not.

Include relevant details such as:

  • A clear job title and description of the work.
  • Employer or recruiting organization name.
  • Work location and whether the role is on-site, hybrid, or remote.
  • Employment type and expected schedule, where known.
  • Required skills, qualifications, or licenses.
  • Pay range, pay basis, and benefits information where available or legally required.
  • Whether compensation is commission-based or includes significant conditions.
  • Application instructions and a closing date, if applicable.

Clearly distinguish employee positions, independent contractor opportunities, internships, and volunteer roles. Do not advertise a business investment, paid training product, or recruitment scheme as ordinary employment.

Discriminatory job advertisements and unlawful hiring restrictions are prohibited. Employers and recruiters are responsible for applicable employment, pay disclosure, and applicant privacy requirements.

We do not accept job listings that require applicants to pay an application or recruitment fee, deposit a check and return money, purchase gift cards, transfer cryptocurrency, or receive and forward funds as a condition of applying.

Do not request bank details, Social Security numbers, or identification documents through public listings or an initial general inquiry. Remove or update openings when they are filled, withdrawn, or expired.

6. Event listings

Submit events you organize or are authorized to represent. Include:

  • Event name and a clear description.
  • Start date, time, and end details where known.
  • Venue name and location.
  • Organizer name and contact information.
  • Admission price or a statement that admission is free.
  • Registration or ticket link, if applicable.
  • Relevant age restrictions and attendance requirements.

Make recurring schedules clear. State whether registration is required and whether attendance is subject to capacity limits.

Update listings promptly when an event is canceled, postponed, moved, or sold out. Organizers remain responsible for permits, ticketing, event delivery, refunds, and attendee communications.

7. Classified ads

Classifieds should describe genuine, eligible items you own or are authorized to sell. Businesses selling items must accurately identify their commercial role.

  • Use a specific title identifying the item.
  • State the asking price or clearly explain the pricing.
  • Describe the item’s condition and known significant defects.
  • Include relevant brand, model, size, or compatibility details.
  • Use current photos of the actual item whenever possible.
  • Explain pickup, delivery, or shipping arrangements.
  • State important sale conditions and any applicable return terms.

Do not use a misleading price, such as listing an item as free when payment is required. Clearly identify stock or illustrative images and do not represent them as photos of the actual item.

Mark items as sold or remove the listing when they are no longer available. Buyers and sellers are responsible for confirming condition, payment, delivery, and other transaction terms directly.

Vehicles and parts

Vehicle ads should accurately state the year, make, model, mileage, condition, and known material issues. Disclose relevant title status and whether the seller is a dealer or private owner.

Parts listings should identify the part, condition, and known compatibility limitations. Do not advertise stolen vehicles or parts, falsified ownership documents, or misleading title and mileage information.

8. Photos, descriptions, and links

  • Write readable descriptions using normal capitalization and relevant details.
  • Avoid excessive punctuation, repeated keywords, and unrelated promotional text.
  • Use content you own, have permission to share, or otherwise have a lawful right to publish.
  • Do not publish private information about customers, tenants, applicants, employees, or other individuals.
  • Link only to relevant, working destinations. Phishing pages, malware, and deceptive redirects are prohibited.

We may adjust formatting, categories, and image sizes for consistency. We may request clarification or additional information before publication.

9. Prohibited listings and conduct

The following are not permitted on Hello Passaic:

  • Fraudulent, deceptive, or impersonated listings.
  • Stolen, counterfeit, or unlawfully obtained goods.
  • Illegal products, services, or activities.
  • Weapons, ammunition, explosives, and weapon components.
  • Controlled substances, prescription medicines, tobacco, vaping products, or alcohol sales.
  • Sexual services or sexually explicit content.
  • Threats, harassment, hate content, or unlawful discrimination.
  • Pyramid schemes, money-transfer schemes, or deceptive income claims.
  • Personal data, identity documents, financial accounts, or stolen credentials offered for sale.
  • Fake reviews, rating manipulation, or misleading endorsements.
  • Spam, malicious links, or attempts to bypass platform restrictions.

These platform restrictions may be stricter than what is legally permitted elsewhere. We may decline other restricted or unsuitable listings based on safety, local relevance, and the platform’s scope.

10. Existing business listings and claims

Some basic business profiles are created from publicly available information. Their appearance does not mean the business created, approved, or paid for the listing.

If your business already appears, request a claim rather than creating a duplicate. We may ask for reasonable evidence of ownership or authorization.

A claimed listing indicates authorized management access. It does not certify licensing, insurance, qualifications, reliability, or service quality. Learn more on our Claim Your Business page.

11. Paid upgrades and promotion

Eligible listings may qualify for featured placement or other paid promotional services. Availability, features, duration, and price depend on the listing type and selected offer.

Payment does not exempt a listing from these guidelines or guarantee approval, inquiries, applicants, bookings, rentals, sales, or search engine rankings.

Paid promotions will be identified where appropriate. Cancellation and refund requests are handled under the applicable order and our Refund & Cancellation Policy.

12. Review, expiration, and removal

We may review submissions before or after publication, request changes, reclassify listings, reject submissions, restrict accounts, or remove content that violates these guidelines.

Expired jobs, past events, unavailable properties, sold items, and outdated listings may be archived, marked unavailable, or removed.

Publication does not mean every detail has been independently verified. Contributors remain responsible for keeping their information accurate.

If you believe a moderation decision was incorrect, contact us with the listing link and relevant supporting information so we can review it.

13. Report a listing or request a correction

Help us identify incorrect information, suspicious offers, expired listings, duplicate submissions, and other concerns.

Please include:

  • The listing name and page link.
  • A clear explanation of the issue.
  • The corrected information or relevant supporting details.
  • Your relationship to the listing, if applicable.

Do not include passwords, full payment card details, Social Security numbers, or sensitive application documents in your report.
